Overview

GitLab for Workflows connects Dynatrace to your GitLab environment for pipeline orchestration, issue management, and GitOps-compliant automation. Trigger pipeline runs, retrieve status, create and resolve issues, and update repository files without leaving your Dynatrace workflow.

Workflow templates are now available for the most common GitLab automation scenarios. Select a template from the Workflows catalog to start with a working automation rather than a blank canvas. A built-in micro guide walks you through each step from installation to your first pipeline trigger.

Key capabilities include:

  • Pipeline orchestration: trigger runs and retrieve build status

  • Issue lifecycle management: create, search, edit, resolve, and comment on issues

  • Repository operations: get, create, update, and delete files; open merge requests

  • GitOps automation: retrieve configuration files, update them, and submit changes via merge request

Get started

Install GitLab for Workflows from the Dynatrace Hub, configure an outbound connection, and authorize it. For firewall-protected GitLab instances, configure EdgeConnect before connecting. After installation, open Workflows and select a GitLab workflow template to get started with a pre-built automation and built-in micro guide.

Details

GitLab enables users to orchestrate pipeline runs based on Dynatrace insights and modify files in repositories for GitOps-compliant automation and remediation:

Define various incident triggers:

  • Use the power of DQL and leverage events to react to any problem, security incident or attack, to trigger a pipeline run
  • Use Biz-Events as a trigger to react on extended events like a deployment event, failed release validation with Site Reliability Guardian, specific logs messages, or external system events
  • Define a scheduler for periodic tasks

Pipeline Orchestration

Issue management

  • Create issues in GitLab
  • Search for available issues to prevent duplicates and comment on available issues
  • Edit or resolve issues, assign issues to specific users or add descriptions
