Overview

Jenkins for Workflows brings CI/CD pipeline control into your Dynatrace automation. Trigger build runs and retrieve job status directly from a workflow — combining Jenkins pipeline execution with Dynatrace event data, quality gates, and problem detection.

Workflow templates are now available for common Jenkins scenarios. Select a prebuilt automation from the Workflows catalog and follow the built-in micro guide to go from installation to a triggered build quickly.

Key capabilities include:

  • Build triggering: initiate Jenkins build runs from any workflow event or schedule

  • Status retrieval: check job and build status to gate downstream workflow steps

  • Event-driven triggers: react to problems, Biz-Events, or metric thresholds to kick off builds

  • Quality gate integration: combine build runs with Dynatrace validation checks

  • Workflow templates: prebuilt Jenkins automations with micro guides for fast onboarding

Get started

Install Jenkins for Workflows from the Dynatrace Hub, configure an outbound connection, and authorize it. For firewall-protected Jenkins instances, configure EdgeConnect before connecting. After installation, open Workflows and select a Jenkins workflow template to start with a prebuilt automation and a step-by-step micro guide.

Jenkins enables users to orchestrate builds based on Dynatrace insights:

Define various incident triggers:

  • Use the power of DQL and leverage events to react to any problem, security incident or attack to trigger a pipeline run
  • Use Biz-Events as a trigger to react on extended events like a deployment event, failed release validation with Site Reliability Guardian, specific logs messages, or external system events
  • Define a scheduler for periodic tasks
